Rewiring the Way We See

About Me

My name is Anurith Kusunam

I'm currently a Junior at Biotechnology High School in New Jersey and I'm passionate about healthcare.

My interest in eyes started when I had surgery for a "lazy eye" as a kid. Since then, I’ve worked hard to understand how the brain and body work together. I spend my time volunteering at a nursing home, training as an EMT on an ambulance, and providing support for patients in hospice care. I also love martial arts and have been a black belt for over eight years. I want to use my science skills to help people see better and live healthier lives.

Join me in my mission to help everyone protect and improve their sight.

My Vision

My mission is to show how the brain can help fix eye problems using the science of vision plasticity. My goal is to provide communication tools and eye health education to help teens and families find better ways to care for their sight.

Research on how Ortho-K Reshapes the Way the Brain Sees

My research project explores how Ortho-K lenses—special lenses worn at night to reshape the eye—actually impact the brain's ability to process images. By studying vision plasticity, we want to see if these lenses help the brain become faster and more accurate at recognizing shapes and reading. This study combines Optical Engineering with neuroscience to find out if we are not just changing the eye, but "retraining" the brain to see more clearly during the day.
